Keegan Bradley named U.S. captain for 2025 Ryder Cup

The PGA of America named Keegan Bradley as the captain of the United States Ryder Cup Team for the 45th Ryder Cup. The 45th Ryder Cup is scheduled to be played from September 26-28, 2025, at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York.

Bradley, 38, made his Ryder Cup debut in 2012 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois. He has a record of 4-3-0 in the Ryder Cup. Bradley turned professional in 2008. Following a standout collegiate career at St John’s University, he has eight worldwide victories and 58 top-10 finishes in 347 PGA TOUR events. He captured his first major title in 2011 at Atlanta Athletic Club, where he rallied to win the PGA Championship in a playoff.

Bradley succeeds Zach Johnson, who captained Team USA for their 16.5-11.5 defeat against Team Europe at Marco Simone Golf Club last September. Tiger Woods reportedly turned down the role having been favourite to lead America on home soil at Bethpage Black.

Tiger Woods was the first choice of the Ryder Cup committee and had been in negotiations for months about what the job would entail and whether he had time to fulfill the duties. However, Tiger ultimately took his name out of the running around the same time PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh announced he would not remain in his role.

Bradley will be the youngest U.S. Ryder Cup captain since Arnold Palmer (34) in 1963. “I am incredibly honored to accept this opportunity to Captain the United States Team at the 2025 Ryder Cup,” said Bradley. “I would like to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for their trust in me as we embark on this journey to Bethpage Black.

“My passion and appreciation for golf’s greatest team event have never been stronger. The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport, and this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course. I look forward to beginning preparations for 2025.”

PGA of America President John Lindert said: “I am proud and excited to name Keegan Bradley as Captain of the 2025 United States Ryder Cup Team.”

“Keegan’s past Ryder Cup experience, strong relationships and unwavering passion for this event will prove invaluable as he guides the U.S. Team over the next year and a half. We are confident that with Keegan at the helm, the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team will compete at Bethpage with the same confidence and determination that has defined his career.”

Former world No 1 Luke Donald will serve as Europe’s captain for a second time, having led Europe to a 16.5-11.5 victory in Rome last September. Donald won all four Ryder Cups he played in and served as a vice-captain for two editions. Thomas Bjorn and Edoardo Molinari return to their roles as vice-captains again, having been part of Donald’s backroom team in the 2023 victory in Rome.
